Terrific Tales of the Tantalizing Taco!

Image
There are quite a few popular items on the menu at our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant - burritos, chimichangas, fajitas, and much more - but quite possibly the most popular item ordered at Mexicali Blues is our terrific tacos. This is especially true every Taco Tuesday when these tasty treats are only $1 each all day long!  Tacos are not only delicious but also a very interesting food item. Here are a few fun facts about this mouthwatering dish followed by all the ways you can enjoy them when you come to Mexicali Blues in Osage Beach.    TACO FUN FACTS October 4 is National Taco Day. (Yes, that just recently happened a few weeks ago, but lucky for you, each Tuesday at Mexicali Blues is Taco Day so you can celebrate every week!)  Rumor has it that tacos have been around a very long time. Their invention happened sometime between 1,000 and 500 B.C. The word taco originated from the Mexican Spanish word meaning a "plug" or "wad" but it is also a wo...

Mexico's Version of Halloween Lasts 3 Entire Days

Image
Halloween will be here in just a couple of weeks. It is celebrated in the United States on October 31 every year. In Mexico, however, they extend their holiday into a 3-day celebration ending with Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on November 2. Since you trust Mexicali Blues to bring you the best Mexican food at the Lake of the Ozarks , we decided to also share the details about this wonderful Mexican tradition with you in today's blog.   All Hallows' Eve Mexico combines All Hallow's Eve on October 31, All Saints' Day on November 1, and the Day of the Dead on November 2 into one big 3-day-long celebration. Children dress up in costumes and go door-to-door asking for candy on All Hallows' Eve, much like children in the United States do for Halloween. Instead of saying "Trick or Treat" when doors are opened, they instead shout "Queremos Halloween!" (We want Halloween!)  The day is referred to as All Hallows' Eve because it falls on...

Can You Resist the Irresistible Chimichanga?

Image
A very popular dish that gets ordered extremely often at our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant is the chimichanga. We made great efforts to perfect this delicious dish here at Mexicali Blues , and the result was two amazing versions of this irresistible treat.  Chimichanga We take a large flour tortilla and stuff it full of meat and cheese. It is then deep-fried and topped with lettuce, sour cream, and green onions. This delicious dish is served with a side of our savory rice & beans. If you aren't in the mood for chicken or beef, we also offer an excellent seafood version.  Baja Chimichanga This chimichanga is also served with rice and beans and is deep-fried. The inside of the large flour tortilla is stuffed with chicken in this case, and the outside is covered with our Baja cheese dip, which is made up of white cheeses, spinach, peppers, and spices.    We also have a wonderful Deep-Fried Burrito on our menu at Mexicali Blues. This is very...

Your favorite Mexican restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is bringing back an old favorite from last year - FIESTA FRIDAYS!!!  Once again, every single week from 4-10 pm , Mexicali Blues is changing the meaning of "TGIF" from "Thank Goodness It's Friday" to "Thank Goodness It's FAJITAS!" Those fantastic fajitas aren't the only surprise we've got in store for you to get the weekend started...  Chicken Fajitas The return of Fiesta Fridays means the return of quite a few TGIF specials at Mexicali Blues. The first one on the list is our mouthwatering Chicken Fajitas for only $9! For that great price, you get to enjoy savory grilled chicken on a bed of onions and peppers. That's served with all the fixings (rice, beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, and flour tortillas) so you can build your fajita in your favorite way.  Normally our Chicken Fajitas cost $13.50 for a small serving and $19.50 for a large. That means on F...
