Save Room for Dessert - We've Got Sopapillas!

Image
We spend a lot of time talking about the best Mexican food at the Lake of the Ozarks that comes out of our kitchen 6 days a week, and nearly as much time marveling about the refreshing margaritas from our bar. Today, however, we're devoting the Mexicali Blues blog to a sweet treat on the menu - sopapillas!

It can be tough to save room for dessert when you've already enjoyed a basket full of chips with our homemade salsa and a savory meal but believe us, it's worth the effort! Our dessert menu features two incredible choices, including fried ice cream (which will get its own blog in the near future) and today's featured treat, sopapillas.

What is a Sopapilla?
A sopapilla is a deep-fried pastry which is most often served with powdered sugar and honey or chocolate syrup. They can also be coated with cinnamon and sugar. Here at Mexicali Blues, we like to make our sopapillas even more of a treat by adding a big scoop of ice cream on top!

Mexicali Blues is Open 6 Days a Week (Sundays Now Too!)

Image
In case you haven't already heard the wonderful news, our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant is now open 6 days a week! You guys told us that you missed being able to enjoy Mexicali Blues for half of your weekend, so by popular demand, we are now open on Sundays.

6 Days a Week
Previously you could only get the best Mexican food at the Lake of the Ozarks beginning at 11:30 am every Tuesday-Saturday. You convinced us that simply wasn't enough, so now we are also open on Sundays, every single week! (Monday is the only day you can't stop by but you can take home a jar of our famous homemade salsa to tide you over.) End your weekend right here with us, then come back a couple of days later for lunch, dinner, or some of our weekly specials.

Taco Tuesday
Quite possibly the most popular day of the week at Mexicali Blues is Tuesday, or more widely known as "Taco Tuesday!" We serve our amazing tacos from open until close for only $1 each! You simply can't pass up a dea…

May is National Salsa Month

It's hard not to be excited about what you are going to order for your meal when you walk into Mexicali Blues. After a long day, there is not much better than tacos and a margarita, but there is something else to be excited about! The first thing being brought to your table is salsa! At our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican Restaurant, salsa is a big deal!

History of Salsa Salsa has been a popular condiment for longer than most will realize. The history of salsa originated with the Inca people. It can also be traced to the Aztecs and Mayans. The Aztec lords used tomatoes, chilies, beans, and squash. They used salsa served on turkey, venison, and fish. The tradition was passed to later cultures in Central America and eventually in the United States. In the early 1800’s bottles, hot sauces made their appearance in Massachusetts. In 1868 Tabasco debuted it hot sauce. In 1948 Texas became the home to the first Salsa manufacturer in the United States. Salsa really became popular in the 1980s.…
