Mexican Food That Made It Into the Guinness Book of World Records

Even though it feels like we serve the most tacos ever each Taco Tuesday at our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant in Osage Beach, we don't quite reach the numbers that the record-breakers below were able to achieve. Due to our infatuation with Mexican food here at Mexicali Blues, we decided to find out exactly what the Guinness Book of World Records had on file about these delicious dishes. It's pretty impressive!

Largest Serving of Tacos
36,300 is the number of the largest serving of tacos (packaged.) This feat was achieved as a joint effort on May 26, 2017, by El Tizoncito and UberEats at Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City, Mexico. Altogether, that serving weighed just over 2,712 pounds and took 600 UberEats drivers to deliver.

Largest Taco
Weighing in at 1,654 pounds was the largest taco on March 8, 2003. It was made by the city of Mexicali. (Great name!) It took about 80 people approximately 6 hours to cook this humongous taco. It measured 35.9 feet long and 33.8 inches wide. 8 grills were used to cook the meat and a special oven was designed to cook the taco. It contained 1,182.5 pounds of grilled steak, 186 pounds of dough for the tortilla, 179 pounds of onion, and 106.3 pounds of coriander. The record-breaking meal was made during the 100th-anniversary celebration of the city of Mexicali.

Longest Line of Tacos
The United States was the site for this record. An event was put on by Chadron State College and Creative Dining Services in Chadron, Nebraska on April 21, 2017. They were hoping to enhance relations between the campus community and the Chadron community. They ended up making a line of 2,017 tacos and feeding over 2,000 people.

Largest Serving of Nachos
This record was also broken right here in the U.S.A. in Lawrence, Kansas. Hundreds of people banded together to create (and later devour) an 80-foot long, 3-foot wide, 10-foot deep serving of nachos that weighed in at 4,689 pounds! Included in this gigantic appetizer were 765 pounds of nacho chips, 405 pounds of salsa, 323 pounds of tomato, 918 pounds of meat and beans, and over 2,200 pounds of cheese. Proceeds from this delicious event went to L.I.N.K. which is a charity that provides meals for low-income families.

Largest Serving of Guacamole
Tancitaro, Michoacan, Mexico was the site of the world's largest serving of guacamole on April 6, 2018. More than 350 people had a hand in helping to create over 8,351 pounds of this tasty green chip dip as a part of the town's 7th Annual Avocado Festival.

Largest Burrito
This incredible burrito was put together by CANIRAC La Paz in La Paz, Jafa California Sur, Mexico on November 3, 2010. It was made from a single tortilla and filled with fish with onions, chile, and refried beans. In the end, it took 54 restaurants with about 3,000 volunteers 9.5 hours to complete this burrito weighing in at just over 12,785 pounds.

We aren't planning to make anything that large anytime soon at Mexicali Blues. What we do serve up in gigantic quantities is high-quality food made with fresh ingredients and loads of great customer service. If you're thinking about breaking any world records yourself, say like "Eating the Most Tacos in One Day," then Taco Tuesday at our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant is a great (and inexpensive) place to practice. We'll expect to see you next week to start your training!
