Treat Yourself to Something Sweet - Desserts at Mexicali Blues

When you "treat yourself to Mexicali Blues" in Osage Beach, you're probably thinking about taking advantage of our popular $1 Taco Tuesdays or ordering up one of those famous house margaritas. Many people forget that in addition to the best Mexican food & margaritas at the Lake of the Ozarks, we've got some deliciously tempting desserts on the menu too.

If you can manage to save room for a sweet treat after your meal, you'll be very happy that you did. (And if you're usually too full once dinner is over, well, maybe you should start with dessert first next time!) To tempt you more, here are some details about two delicious desserts you can enjoy at our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant

Fried Ice Cream
One might think that dropping a ball of ice cream into a deep-fryer would result in everything melting away into nothing. On the contrary, if done correctly, it's a scrumptious treat that will impress you and your friends, as well as your taste buds!

We manage this tasty dessert by starting out with an extremely frozen ball of ice cream (the more solid, the better.) The ice cream is then rolled in cornflake crumbs and cinnamon. Since the ball has been frozen at such a cold temperature, it is able to resist the heat for the limited time it is in the fryer, which is just long enough to turn that coating into a crisp shell of sweet goodness.

The final product turns into an irresistible dessert that has a warm, crunchy outside and a frozen, delightful inside! We dress it up with a bit of chocolate syrup and whipped cream on top before bringing it out to your table to enjoy.

Sopapillas
A sopapilla is a deep-fried pastry that is most often served with powdered sugar and honey or chocolate syrup. They can also be coated with cinnamon and sugar. Here at Mexicali Blues, we like to make our sopapillas even more of a treat by adding a big scoop of ice cream on top!

Sopapillas are believed to have originated over 200 years ago in New Mexico. Although the delicious dish we are familiar with today was created in the United States, it's popularity spread to several South American countries. Technically, they enjoy it as a type of deep-fried bread, and similar foods had been seen in other forms previously. Dishes closely resembling sopapillas existed in both European and Middle Eastern kitchens.

Okay, admit it, you're at least a little bit curious about how these delicious desserts taste! Stop wondering and go ahead and treat yourself to dessert at Mexicali Blues soon. Get good and hungry, then come in for dinner and a sweet treat after or, if you like, just come in for dessert alone. We're willing to bet after just one bite, you'll be saving room for these a lot more often!
