A Few Fun Facts About Everyone's Favorite Food - Tacos!
Okay, we realize that tacos may not be every single person in the world's favorite food, but they're definitely in most people's top ten. Once you get a taste of the best tacos at the Lake of the Ozarks, we're willing to bet that they move even further up your list!
Here at Mexicali Blues, tacos are one of our most popular items. Today we've gathered a few interesting facts for you about this delicious dish, followed by all of the yummy ways that we can cook them up for you.
Taco Fun Facts
- October 4 is National Taco Day. (EVERY day at Mexicali Blues is Taco Day, and on Tuesdays, it's $1 Taco Day!)
- Tacos are rumored to have been invented between 1,000 and 500 B.C.
- The word taco originates from the Mexican Spanish word meaning a "plug" or "wad." It is also a word used for "light lunch."
- "Taqueria" is Spanish for "taco shop." The term was originally used to describe street vendors that sold tacos, but today is most often refers to a restaurant serving authentic Mexican food.
- According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest flour taco weighed 1,654 pounds! It measured 35.9 feet long and 33.8 inches wide, stuffed full of grilled steak and onion.
- Guinness also claims that the largest line of tacos was made up of 2,013 tacos.
- The first taco truck was operated by two housewives in New York in 1966.
The tacos at our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant can be served with either a crispy corn shell or a soft flour shell wrapped around your choice of ground beef or chicken. For a small additional charge, you can have fajita chicken or steak instead.
Carnita Tacos - 2 slow-roasted pork tacos topped with lettuce, cheese, guacamole, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro, served with black beans and rice.
Lobster Tacos - 2 fried lobster tacos with lettuce, cheese, cilantro, and ranch dressing, served with rice.
Shrimp or Grouper Tacos - 2 sauteed shrimp or grouper tacos with lettuce, cheese, cilantro, and ranch dressing, served with rice. The seafood can also be prepared blackened.
You can enjoy them ala carte or as a part of a combo dinner served with rice and beans. The combo dinner allows you to mix and match your tacos with the following list of tasty dishes: enchilada, burrito, flauta, chili rellano, or tamale.

Taco Tuesday
Every single week we celebrate Taco Tuesday and make our already incredible regular tacos even more special by offering them for just $1 each! You can come in anytime between 11:30 am-9:00 pm, and as many times as you like, to take advantage of this awesome deal. If you join us during Happy Hour on Tuesdays from 4-6 pm, we'll have some great drink specials for you to wash them down with too!
