The Fantastic Fajita Choices at Mexicali Blues

One of the many popular food items on our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant menu is the fajita. Not only is this dish delicious, but it's fun too. We prepare the ingredients in our kitchen, but bring them out to you "deconstructed" so that you can build your own custom fajita in any way that you choose. It's like a DIY craft that you get to eat when your masterpiece is finished!

Fantastic Fajitas
Fajitas at Mexicali Blues in Osage Beach come to the table with everything that you need. You will get one plate with all of your toppings; beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and sour cream. The meal also comes with flour tortillas, and our amazing house-recipe salsa will already be on the table. (But we're happy to bring you more if you ate it all with your chips!)

Last, but certainly not least, comes a sizzling skillet filled with your choice of grilled meat on a bed of grilled onions and peppers. First, you'll hear it headed to your table, and soon after you'll smell the mesmerizing scent of the food you are about to enjoy! Fajitas come in both small and large sizes, and your meat choices include:
  • Steak
  • Chicken
  • Shrimp
  • Steak/Chicken Combo
  • Steak/Chicken/Shrimp Combo

Fajita Origins
The actual word "fajita" did not show up in print until 1971, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. The first meals that were considered to be fajitas were served in the late 1930's-early 40's. Mexican ranch workers living along the Rio Grande on the Texas-Mexico border in Southern and Western Texas were fed beef that was butchered during cattle roundups as a part of their pay. Since the dish originated in that particular area, fajitas are a true Tex-Mex food.

This now-popular dish has come a long way since its origins. Back then, the "throw-away" pieces of the cattle were most often used. At Mexicali Blues, we only use the freshest, high-quality pieces of meat to create our fajitas, and we've expanded the choices to more than just beef.
