The history of salsa originated with the Inca people. It can also be traced to the Aztecs and Mayans. The Aztec lords used tomatoes, chilies, beans, and squash. They used salsa served on turkey, venison, and fish. The tradition was passed to later cultures in Central America and eventually in the United States. In the early 1800’s bottles, hot sauces made their appearance in Massachusetts. In 1868 Tabasco debuted it hot sauce.
