Kids Become Mexican Food Fans at Mexicali Blues

If you're a big fan of the best Mexican food at the Lake of the Ozarks, you're going to want your kids to love it too. That way it won't be any trouble at all to convince them to pick Mexicali Blues when you pose the question, "Where should we eat tonight?

Some of the flavors in Mexican food may be a bit advanced for a young palate, but that's not a problem at our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant. We have an excellent kid's menu with items that children already like, plus a few simple Mexican dishes to introduce them to our cuisine. There are also a few items on our regular menu that make for a nice "gateway food" as their taste buds get braver.

These meals come in child-sized portions, without a lot of extra ingredients to turn off picky eaters.

Cheese Quesadilla

Taco - Corn shell, beef, lettuce, and cheese, served with fries.

Burrito - Bean and cheese, served with fries.

Corn Dogs6 minis served with fries.

Chicken StripsHand-breaded and served with fries.

We've got a few menu items that might be a good choice for your kids to try when they're ready to move on from the kid's menu.

  • Nachos
Nachos are great for children because they get to eat with their hands, plus, most kids love chips. Our nachos are made with chips, beans, meat, cheese, sour cream, and pico de gallo.
  • Fajita
Fajitas allow kids to pick and choose exactly what goes on their tortilla, and that feeling of power over what they're eating can be enticing. Make sure that they know to stay away from the hot skillet. Ordering a combo of meats may convince them to give a new food a try.
  • Flauta
Flautas are long, crispy treats that have a crunch kids love, and they're great for dipping. It's a flour tortilla filled with meat & cheese, deep fried, and served with sour cream.

By far, the best part of a meal to any child (and any adult with a sweet-tooth) is dessert! Our scrumptious dessert choices include Sopapillas and Fried Ice Cream. The idea that ice cream can be fried without melting is a mystery most kids can't wait to solve. We also make some pretty amazing virgin drinks at the bar for kids to sip on while they eat rather than waiting until they're finished.

Another easy way to convince kids that Mexican food is a good idea for dinner is to remind them about the free chips and salsa that they can munch on while we prepare your meal. Adding a tasty cheese dip, like our always fun Queso Fundido, is a great incentive too. It's a smooth, super-stringy cheese dip served in a taco shell bowl that's become a local favorite.

So the next time that you decide to take the gang out for dinner, give our family friendly restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks a try. There are plenty of dishes to keep the kids happy, and quite a few to increase their range of favorite foods. Before you know it, they'll be wanting to eat at Mexicali Blues all the time!
