5 Ways To Make Mom Feel Special This Mother's Day

Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 13, which means it's time to let that special lady know exactly how you feel about her. Possibly ladies, plural, if you have a step-mom, mother-in-law, grandmother, or someone else you would like to honor too.

The hardest part about coming up with a Mother's Day gift is the fact that moms usually seem to have everything they want or need already. Mexicali Blues did some thinking, and we've come up with 5 ideas that may be perfect for your mother.

Let Her Sleep In
One gift that just about anyone would love is the chance to stay in bed late and not worry about anything. Make sure that Mom has everything that she needs close at hand the night before so she doesn't have to get out of bed. Some ideas could be magazines, books, the TV remote, scented candles, or anything that you know she enjoys and will help to relax her.

Once you know she's awake, bring in a special breakfast in bed for her. Get everyone else to the other side of the house to limit the amount of noise that mom has to hear, or if she really needs some quiet, alone time, get out of the house for an hour or two. Just be sure to come back later to celebrate with her for the rest of the day.

Presents!
If your mom already has plenty of "things" sitting around on her shelves or in her jewelry box, consider giving her a gift that is a one-time use item, such as something edible, or an experience that will get her out of the house and into some fun.

Here are a couple of examples for you. Put together a basket full of tasty goodies, like tortilla chips and a jar of the best salsa at the Lake of the Ozarks, is something she can truly enjoy and this isn't something she already has. (Because if she did, it's eaten and gone by now!) As for an experience, Mexicali Blues isn't open on Sundays, but a gift card to our Mexican restaurant allows your mother to come back and enjoy a meal or some margaritas on you anytime that she likes. (A small gift card can buy a LOT of $1 tacos every Tuesday!)

Throw A Party
Celebrate in style and throw a party with mom as the guest of honor. Serve her favorite foods, and maybe even provide her with a crown, sash, and specially decorated "throne" for the queen of the day. You could also present her with a scrapbook or slideshow of your favorite photos of her many different "mom moments" through the years. Best of all, let her know that you will take care of cleaning up the party once it's over!

Take Her Out
Get your mother out of the house for a fun-filled day of things she loves to do, or possibly introduce her to something you love that she may enjoy too. There are all kinds of beautiful parks to visit around the lake area, and plenty of attractions to enjoy.

If you live here year-round, play tourist for the day and do all of the fun stuff that you tell visitors to do when they visit. You could choose to get out of town and actually be a tourist. There are quite a few day trips to enjoy just a short drive from our mid-Missouri location. Either way, staying in town or leaving, you're sure to make lots of great family memories to cherish.

Say Thank You
We don't mean with gifts in this instance, but rather that you should physically tell your mother thank you. If you aren't able to visit her in person, be sure to give her a phone call, or better yet, video chat so that you can see each other while you talk. Another very personal way to thank your mother is to write her a letter on actual paper. (That doesn't happen very often nowadays.) She'll appreciate the having it as a keepsake.

When all else fails, bring your mom to the best Mexican restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks any Tuesday-Saturday beginning at 11:30 am. You'll experience great food, amazing drinks, and an inviting atmosphere at Mexicali Blues, along with some great quality time with your mom, and you don't need to wait for Mother's Day to do that!
