Mexicali Blues Salsa - Delicious, Healthy, & Packaged To Take Home!

Some people come into Mexicali Blues in Osage Beach specifically for Taco Tuesday, others are more interested in our world-famous margaritas, and some simply can't get enough of those fantastic fajitas. Even if they can't agree on which menu item is the best, they will all agree on the fact that we have the best salsa at the Lake of the Ozarks

Why Our Salsa is Special
Due to popular demand, we ended up bottling our salsa so that customers could take home more than just a to-go cup full of it when they left our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant. Since we have quite a few visitors every year from out of town, we've even gone the extra mile to get our salsa out of town. It can currently be found in over 70 grocery stores across Missouri!

Obviously, it's the taste that makes people fall in love with our salsa. To achieve that fantastic flavor, we use only all-natural ingredients and absolutely no preservatives in our recipe. The robust taste of Mexico comes out from the combination of zesty-flavored ingredients such as tomato, peppers, onions, garlic, and more. Only fresh, unprocessed ingredients are used to make our amazing salsa, which is a huge reason why it tastes so darn good!

Some Salsa History
Salsa has been a favored condiment for meals for a very long time. Historians have traced it all the way back to Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas. Aztec lords were served salsa to go along with dishes such as turkey, venison, lobster, and fish. The main ingredients in their version included tomatoes, chilies, and ground squash seeds.

Alonso de Molina, a Spanish priest and missionary, gets the credit for naming the food "salsa" in 1571, which is the Spanish word for "sauce." Recipes for salsa began showing up in cookbooks in the late 1800's. Americans began bottling what they called salsa as early as 1916. This early version looked more like what we consider hot sauce today. Between 1985-1990, salsa took a huge jump in sales and is now a condiment that you are very likely to find in just about every refrigerator in America. We opened the doors to Mexicali Blues in 2000, and people have been in love with our salsa every since!

Tasty AND Healthy
Your taste buds aren't the only part of your body that salsa is good for. There are quite a few good-for-you health benefits associated with this delicious food.
  • Tomatoes contain the carotenoid lycopene, which has been linked to reducing a person's risk of cancer.
  • Salsa is a cholesterol-free food because all of the ingredients in it come from plants. This also makes it a tasty vegan option.
  • Onions and tomatoes have quercetin, which is an antioxidant that researchers have found to have anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antihistamine effects.
  • Onions & tomatoes are also both rich in Vitamin C.
  • Salsa is low in calories (but full of flavor!)
  • The spicier you go, the healthier it gets! Jalapenos contain capsaicin, which increases your body's ability to burn fat, promoting weight loss. Capsaicin also has been found in studies to suppress the growth of cancer cells.

Give Our Salsa a Try
When it comes to Mexicali Blues salsa, it's easy for you to "try before you buy." We serve complimentary bowls of our amazing house recipe salsa and freshly made tortilla chips to every table that dines or drinks at our Mexican restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. Pick up enough jars while you're here to last you until your next visit, and if your local store doesn't already carry our Mexicali Blues brand of salsa, tell them that you want it! We'll see what we can do about that.
