The Irresistible Taco

You've probably heard the inspirational saying, "You can't make everyone happy... You're not a taco!" Here at our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican restaurant, we totally agree with that sentiment. Even when we think we've made our customers as happy as they can possibly be, the tacos come out to the table & upstage us, immediately making everyone even happier!

It's rare to find a person that doesn't list tacos at the top of their favorite foods list. There's just something incredibly special about this simple menu item that nobody can seem to resist. While trying to figure out the mysterious appeal of the amazing taco, we ran across a few fun facts to share with you.

  • Tacos are rumored to have been invented between 1000 and 500 B.C.
  • According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest flour taco weighed 1,654 pounds! It measured 35.9 feet long and 33.8 inches wide and was stuffed full of grilled steak and onion.
  • Guinness also claims that the largest line of tacos was made up of 2,013 of the tasty treats.
  • The word taco originates from the Mexican Spanish word meaning a "plug" or "wad." It is also a word used for "light lunch."
  • "Taquiera" is Spanish for "taco shop." The term was originally used to describe the street where vendors sold tacos, but today it most often refers to a restaurant serving authentic Mexican food.
  • The first taco truck was operated by two housewives in New York in 1966.
  • October 4 is National Taco Day. (EVERY day at Mexicali Blues is Taco Day!)
