A Delicious Holiday - The International Day of the Nacho!

The International Day of the Nacho falls on Wednesday, October 21 this year, and our Lake of the Ozarks Mexican Restaurant serves a loaded nacho plate that is definitely worthy of a celebration! In honor of this special day and the delicious version of this Mexican food favorite we offer at Mexicali Blues in Osage Beach, here's some interesting information about the origin of nachos. After that, get a closer look at the incredible nachos we've got waiting for you.

A Mexican Food Favorite - Nachos!

Nachos, in general, are described as a Tex-Mex dish from northern Mexico that consists of heated tortilla chips covered with melted cheese, often served as an appetizer. This delicious dish is said to have been created by Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya in 1940 when a regular customer of his requested he bring out a different snack than her usual.

After glancing around the kitchen, he spotted some freshly fried pieces of corn tortillas. Anaya, aka "Nacho", added some melted cheese and pickled jalapeno strips to those. It was a hit and when the table asked what this delicious dish was called, the chef replied, "Well, I guess we can just call them Nacho's Special."

Anaya died in 1975 but in his honor, a bronze plaque was erected in Piedras Negras, the town where he had opened his own restaurant. Also in his honor, October 21 was declared the International Day of the Nacho.

Our Loaded Nachos

Here at Mexicali Blues, we go a bit farther than just melting some cheese over a few tortilla chips. Our Loaded Nachos are listed in the appetizer section of our menu but are most definitely hearty enough to make an entire meal out of!

We pile freshly cooked tortilla chips high with our chili con queso, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, and fajita chicken. This is a perfect plate to share at the table, especially if you're trying to save room for anything else.

Prefer to Dip?

We realize that there are some people out there that prefer to dip their chips into a savory cheese sauce rather than have them come out to the table already loaded up. If that happens to be you, here is a list of the delicious dips you might choose to order instead.

Chili Con Queso
A serving of the warm melted cheese with chili peppers that we use on our Loaded Nachos.

Queso Fundido
A smooth, stringy cheese dip that's a local favorite!

Baja Dip
White cheeses, spinach, peppers, and spices.

Trip Dip
A trio of chili con queso, queso blanco, and guacamole.

Guacamole
Made fresh daily!

We're open and ready to serve up the best Mexican food at the Lake of the Ozarks every Tuesday-Saturday beginning at 4:00 pm. Come on by and give a plate full of our incredible nachos a try!
